NFL to warn Landon Collins following Dave…

2 min read

Washington Redskins safety Landon Collins insists it was a joke, but after suggesting he would “run over” New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman on the sidelines prior to one of their games, the NFL is not laughing. Not even a little bit.

Bob Glauber of Newsday reports that the NFL will reach out to Collins this week, and while he’s likely to escape discipline, the league will warn him against future threats against the 68-year-old who is battling cancer.

The NFL is expected to reach out to Redskins safety Landon Collins about comments he made suggesting he would try to run over Giants general manager Dave Gettleman during pregame warmups when the teams play each other this season.

A league source told Newsday on Tuesday that Collins would be warned about the remarks, although it is unlikely he will face a fine for suggesting he would hit the 68-year-old Gettleman.

“I would try to tell one of my defensive back coaches to throw the ball in that direction and give a nice little thud, a nice little run-over, a quick little ‘uhh,’ something like that,” Collins told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. “I’m going to make it real subtle, you know?”

“I don’t think he’s got the skill level to stay on his feet. … I don’t think he’s got the skill level to stay on his feet.”

Collins has since sent out a tweet insisting it was a joke and that people need to understand the difference between comedy and reality, but it’s clear he went overboard this time around.

Since the Giants and Gettleman allowed Collins to walk out the door earlier this year, he’s been on a constant tirade against the team and recently set a personal goal to never speak their names again.

A call from the NFL will likely make reaching that goal much easier for him.
